Chairman’s Chat
Coaching sessions have been really well attended this week with lots of varied venues (Observatory Hill, Aykley Heads, track, down by the river). Lots of fabulous performances at parkruns (special shout out to one of my juniors Freddie, who did the junior and senior “double” this weekend!). Also a wonderful orange turnout for the Durham Trail 10 miler (Stevie Hamil and Kim Graver taking the championship titles, well done guys!).
Away from the running, here are some of the behind the scenes updates to make you aware of:
- Website – Please take a few minutes to familiarise yourself with the content on our evolving website. You can now see a breakdown of all of the different junior and senior training groups, a breakdown of all of the different races and competitions we take part in. There’s also a very helpful club calendar that you can use to plan out the various club events that you want to be involved plus info on club kit, club roles, volunteering, welfare, club history, policies and procedures and a list of our life members. If you have any suggestions of what else you’d like to see [or how we might improve it. Ed.] do let me know. Thanks to Steph and Mitch for their contributions to this and a special thanks to Scott, who has worked tirelessly to pull it together
- Durham Parkrun Takeover – Really looking forward to this next weekend. Thank you to everyone who has volunteered to date, it should be a great morning. We will have the orange tent at the finish, and some flyers to give out to the parkrun completers. Hopefully see some of you back at the cafe afterwards for a coffee!
- Kit & Bake Sale – I’ll put out a separate post about this, but just to acknowledge here that we will be doing this on 16th June to time in with the Men-v- women Handicap race. More details to follow very soon
- Document for New Members – Although the revamped website will be a useful resource for new members, we have decided to produce a more comprehensive beginners guide to the club. This should enable all new members to quickly familiarise with the many things that are on offer to DCH athletes. Steph has done a wonderful job on this, and we are really excited to share it with you when its ready
- Last, and by no means least, the club will soon be announcing the range of activity that is planned over the next year in memory of our lovely member Gill Goss, who sadly/recently passed away. Gill was a true shining light within the club, and we wish to mark her time with us by doing various charitable events/initiatives. I’ll announce the specifics of this soon once plans are finalised.
Hope everyone has a good week
Best wishes
Matt
