The DCH Grand Prix, ‘Club GP’ or just ‘GP’, is an internal competition that takes place over the course of the athletic year. The GP organiser will pre-select the races that comprise the series. The exact number of events may vary year-on-year but will aim to offer a mix of internal and external races, on and off road. The GP for 2026 comprises 14 races.
Entry is open to all members of Durham City Harriers who must complete a minimum of 6 events. Points are awarded based on finishing times, with the best six results counting. Prizes are awarded to the top three male and female runners based on their points total at the conclusion of the series (see ‘Rules’ and ‘Scoring’ below).

Rules
- All runners MUST run in their own name to be awarded points.
- A DCH vest or top MUST be worn to qualify for points.
- Where appropriate, group coaches and leaders will liaise with race organisers to secure race entry for DCH in-house events.
- Members are responsible for entering themselves in external events but MUST remember to include the club’s name ‘DURHAM CITY HARRIERS’ on their entry.
- If a race is chip-timed it is the chip-time, not the gun-time, that is used to determine the GP order. However, if two individuals have the same time then official finish positions will be taken into account.
- Where a participant has entered a GP race via a club entry, the race fee must be PAID IN FULL prior to the race start or points gained at that race will not count towards the GP.
- In case of a tie-break, when results are compiled at the end of November, the runner who has completed the most races will be the winner. We will do our best to keep track of all your results, but please let us know if we have missed one!
Scoring
- The Grand Prix is scored on a fastest runner basis for both males and females.
- Points are awarded on a descending scale – 10 down to 1 – to all GP participants in each GP race, males and females respectively. The sole exception is the Durham City Run where points will be awarded from 15 to 1 on the same basis.
- Points, from 10 down to 1, will be awarded to all GP participants according to their age-graded WAVA score, in descending order, for the Durham Parkrun and 1-Mile Race, for men and women respectively.
- All runners score at least 1 point for each race completed.
- Respective male and female winners of the club’s annual Men-v-Women race in June will each be awarded 2 points, the ‘10 down to 1’ rule not applying to this race. A single point will be awarded to each runner for completing the race.
- Volunteers for in-house races will score 2 points.
- The best 6 results (maximum) will score towards a participant’s total.
