Our Beginners Group is activated for periods throughout the year and is essentially the Couch to 5K (C25K) group for non-members of Durham City Harriers. Our 10-week program is designed to help those without a background in running to complete, in a single continuous effort, a distance of 5K. To date, the club has successfully taken 7 cohorts of runners through the C25K program – well in excess of 100 people. More than 70 have subsequently joined the club and now run with either the Transition Group or Endurance Group.
Coaches are well versed in providing expert care and tuition to those lacking confidence in their ability to run. The C25K course is designed to progress people in a way that acknowledges this lack of running experience while gently testing and challenging them along the way. Feedback from graduates of the course has been unanimously positive with many stating that they didn’t think it was possible – and to have done it with a smile on their face!
