The North Eastern Harrier League (NEHL) is the local cross-country league for the region. The events themselves are promoted by participating clubs and take place at venues around the North East. They are a great way to get together with club mates during the autumn and winter months and, what’s more, DCH pays for your entry so taking part is completely FREE. You’ll receive a single race number from your cross-country captain which you retain throughout the season – keep it safe because replacing it costs YOU a fiver!
NEHL fixtures are based on a handicap system with slow, medium and fast packs. You’ll start in the slow pack and, if you’re quick enough, work your way up. All races count towards league points for the club apart from the annual Sherman Cup/Davison Shield which is a league championship event for which scoring is slightly different.
Other championship events, for which the club also pays your entry fee, are not part of the NEHL. These include:
- Northern Athletics XC Relay Championships
- National XC Relay Championships
- North Eastern Championships
- Northern Championships
- NEMAA Championships
- National Championships
- BMAF Championships
Event dates, age group start times and rules are available on the NEHL’s website while day-to-day information is available on the NEHL Facebook page. Seniors athletes register for league and championship events via their respective cross-country captain while juniors would contact their coach.
