Chairman’s Chat
Hi all,
It’s been another eventful week in terms of running, racing and competing! Big shout out to Lynne Carruthers and Kimberley Graver who competed in the Chopwell Woods 10-mile race in the afternoon heat yesterday. This is a counting event for the DCH Grand Prix. Kimberley achieved a fantastic WIN in the ladies race while Lynne added to her huge list of outstanding performances!
A few of the juniors earlier on in the week told me about their impressive performances in the School District Championships – Aylin Hafiz finishing 1st in the 100m, James Emery finishing 1st in the 1500m, and Xanda Holden finishing 2nd in the high jump. I am sure there will have been many other performances that I have either forgotten or don’t know about, so please let us know if that’s the case by commenting on this post!
On the point of junior competition, we had another incredibly successful day at the NEYDL (Division 2) track meet last weekend (21st June) at Whitley Bay. I’m constantly blown away by all of the performances I see at these meetings, and the incredible work behind the scenes that goes on from all of our parents and volunteers – thank you, and well done.
Special shout out again to Helen Kleiser who essentially co-ordinates and juggles something that is extremely difficult to co-ordinate and juggle!
A few more updates from the last week or so:
Membership
We have had an incredible 18 new members join in June – 5 juniors and 13 seniors. We have several more people currently doing taster sessions with us and a further 7 juniors will hopefully be coming on board from our waiting list in July. If you know anybody who might be interested in joining the club tell them to contact dchmembership@gmail.com or signpost them to this website and we will provide all the the information they need.
Presentation Night
Whilst the detail is still yet to be worked through, I can confirm that the resounding winner of the poll for the month in which we plan to hold the presentation night this year is… OCTOBER! I aim to finalise plans for this by the end of July, so that people have lots of notice to keep the date clear in their diary – more info to follow!
Run Leaders
A successful club ALWAYS needs Run Leaders. If you’re a member of DCH, why not consider putting yourself forward for the role? Use any DCH contact (coaching or committee) or email dchmembership@gmail.com. It’s a great way of helping the club, the coaching group and your club mates. I’m certain you’ll really enjoy it!
That’s all for now guys, have a great week running and racing!
Best wishes
Matt
