Chairman’s Chat
Its been another cracking week for DCH, with all sorts of stuff going on. Last week we had a whole host of fantastic achievements in the NEYDL and NESDL track and field competitions and this week we’ve seen more great action!
On Thursday evening we had the Mackay Mile track meeting during which we had several 800m junior races followed by a student race and two senior 1-mile races. Congratulations to all who competed. The atmosphere was electric thanks to fabulous support from the sidelines and camaraderie on the track.
The weekend has followed on in the same vein, with yet another junior parkrun PB from Jacob (DCH Eagles), an eye-catching run by newcomer Will (DCH Hawks) and a smashing run in the Edinburgh half marathon by Peter Telford.
Work continues behind the scenes: we have now established a 4th junior training group, after taking on 15 new juniors for taster sessions. George McKay will head up this new group taking us, as a club, to over 80 junior athletes.
Scott Watson is busy redesigning the website – I’ll point out the new features once it’s all done. Our public Instagram and Facebook pages are also gaining traction. If you want us to promote your achievements or adventures through this avenue, don’t forget to reply to Steph Hall-Barron’s posts on Spond when she asks for race photos/stories – that’s the way to become famous!
We are beginning to pull together a range of social events for the year which we’ll flag in date order in the new DCH calendar, soon to be published on the website.
Individual flyers will soon be out for each event but, in short, there will be a session where we celebrate Pride month through running, a kit-and-bake charity sale, a coastal fun run with a cafe finish, a junior presentation event, the annual club presentation night, Halloween fun, and a Christmas-themed session to round off the year.
Events to look forward to in the immediate future are our Durham parkrun takeover (please volunteer to help or pace if you haven’t already) and the annual Men-v-Women race (always one that we all pretend not to be competitive about, until the whistle blows).
It’s an exciting time to be a Harrier and the weather is coming good for all these things to unfold. That’s enough from me for now, so have a great week, and happy running!
Matt
