Durham Coastal Half Marathon
Sunday 28th June 2026 | Recently, I’ve been trying races out that I haven’t done before. The Trail Outlaws Durham Coastal Half Marathon is a scenic 13 miles that’s not for the faint hearted! It involves a lot of undulation, climbing and big descents – more like an army assault course after the half-way mark.
The race starts at Noses Point, Seaham, at 10 am, finishing at the caravan park in Crimdon Dene.
Recent temperatures had been high but – at 22 degrees – it felt really hot where you were exposed to the sun. Long stretches of narrow coastal path makes it difficult to get a free run, with thistle, bramble and nettles along the way. Water and sweets were being offered at two feed stations – very welcome.
I managed to get around in 2:36:58. I got a nice medal and grabbed a bottle of beer. I was so hot and exhausted that I made my way down to the beach while struggling to get my socks and shoes off. It was heaven as I entered the sea which really seemed to help with soreness in my legs – especially my quads.
I enjoyed most of the Race, apart from last two miles, as by then I was VERY tired!
