The club runs an annual track event for members, called the “Mackay Mile”. Usually held in May, it’s a 1-mile race for Seniors, U17 and U15 Juniors and an 800m race for U13 Juniors. The event celebrates the contribution to the club of three individuals: Brian Mackay, Andy Billett and John Hampson.

The race is named after Bryan Mackay who was a founder member of DCH when it reformed in 1972. As part of the partnership with Durham University, following the club’s move to Maiden Castle, he coached both DCH and DUAXC athletes in middle and long distance running for just over 20 years until hanging up his whistle in 2022.

Two memorial trophies, the Andy Billett Memorial Trophy and John Hampson Memorial Trophy celebrate the contribution made to the senior and junior sections of DCH by coaches Andy Billett and John Hampson. Both have sadly passed away.

Coordination of the event and results are published on the members-only Facebook group. If you are a member of the club but have not yet joined this group, search for “Durham City Harriers” and request to join.
