Transition Group

If you’ve completed Couch to 5K or can run 5K without stopping but feel unsure about what comes next, our Transition Group is the perfect place to continue your journey.  Whether you’re aiming for longer distances, faster times, or just want to keep running socially, we’ve got you covered.

Some members have gone on to complete 10Ks, half marathons, and even full marathons while others focus on improving their 5K personal bests. Everyone’s goals are respected, and sessions are tailored to suit all levels.

Why join the Transition Group?

  1. A welcoming, social atmosphere with no pressure
  2. Supportive coaching from the same team behind C25K
  3. Training sessions designed for varied abilities and goals
  4. Opportunities to progress further or represent the club in races – if you wish
  5. A safe space for those coming directly into this group, who’ve felt intimidated at the thought of joining a running club previously

Many of our members were non-runners not long ago, so they understand what it’s like to start out. That’s why new members are always met with encouragement and support.  The group meets every Tuesday, and members are also welcome to join selected Senior Endurance track sessions, with guidance from our coaching team, to get extra weekly sessions in.

If you want to keep progressing, this is your next step:  We’ll help you build confidence, set new goals, and enjoy every mile of the journey – don’t just take our word for it, here’s what our members say:

Coaches: Niall Salmon, Paul Ginsberg, Dionne Hamill, Matt Gwilym, Ian Farmer

“Being part of the Transition Group has been a fabulous experience following the Coach to 5k with the club. It’s a great way to stay fit, meet like-minded people, and stay motivated, whether you are running for fun or looking to improve your performance for upcoming competitions, the support and extra training here make a big difference”.

“Training sessions are fun and friendly. The camaraderie in the group is so good that we often meet up for different Park Runs and additional training sessions. We have also signed up and supported each other doing races such as the Durham City 5k and 10k runs. Best thing for me is getting out doing something socially with the bonus of getting fitter”.

“A great way to continue running after C25k. A fabulous group of supportive members who are all so encouraging no matter what your ability or speed. All the training sessions are structured so that no one feels left behind – I can certainly say this as a slower runner myself! Great coaches who inspire and challenge you and will celebrate every achievement”.
