Young athletes from the Harriers certainly helped their school Durham Johnston do very well in the English Schools XC Cup National Final in Suffolk last month.

The Junior Girls Team were tremendous as they finished in Bronze Medal position with Freya Gibson leading the way and finishing 10th in a time of 9.16, followed by Jessica Peart 25th 9.33, Charlotte Dillon 26th 9.34, and Lucy Pinkney 51st 9.50, the 4 scorers, with Ruby Phillips 147th 11.03 and Grace Dale 149th 11.13 backing them up.

In the Junior Boys Team, Sam Terry and Noah Glanville had a good battle going  on, in the end Sam was 33rd in 12.46, and Noah 35th in 12.47, with Zach Twaddle 87th 13.29, and Ivo Schulz 96th 13.34, the 4 scorers and they were 14th Team, backing them up were Sam Mason 132nd 14.15 and Alex Tsinopoulos 135th 14.22.


In the British Athletics Cross Challenge, which incorporated the European Trials at Liverpool, Cameron Thomas was 71st in the u/17 Men's 5.5k Race in a time of 19.15, Luke Pickering was 81st in the u/20) Men's 6.7k Race in 21.46, and in the very strong Senior Men's 9.8k Race, Dan Jenkin finished a very creditable 98th out of 620 finishers recording 31.16.


Last month, some of the Club's athletes turned their attention to Indoor Competition closer to home at Gateshead with many personal bests achieved over the 60m sprint distance, results of which were as follows: Jonathan Bull (Senior) 7.32pb, Tyler Thomas (u/20) 7.74, Travis Anderson (u/15) 8.07pb, Tia Anderson (u/17)  8.17pb, Laura Bevington (u/20) 8.47pb, Ellie Harris (u/17) 8.65pb, Amy Colling (u/17) 8.71pb, Ben Coffer (u/15) 9.06pb and Long Jump 4.00m pb.


Meanwhile at the Northern Athletics Indoor Meeting Indoor Meeting in Sheffield, Adam Ord (u/17) won his heat of the 1000m in 2.42.45, which was only one hundredth of a second off equalling his personal best.
Continuing with Indoor competition,  at Sport City, Sale , Greg Venyo (u/23) recorded 38.27 (300m) Ellie Harris (u/17) 8.73 (60m) and Jennifer Taylor (u/17) 1.53.05 pb
(600m).


In the Northern Athletics Open Indoor (Meeting 2) at Sheffield , results were as follows: Conrad Kennedy (v/50) 60m (Hurdles) 9.09pb, Jonathan Bull (u/23) 60m 7.40 and 300m 37.07pb, Matthew Douthwaite (u/20) 60m 7.52pb and 300m 37.15pb, Ben Rotchford (Senior) 300m 38.02, Tia Anderson (u/17) 300m 41.23, Laura Bevington (u/20) 60m 8.55.


In the South Yorkshire Indoor Series also held in Sheffield at the weekend, Travis Anderson (u/15) eclipsed his 400m time of 60.10 almost a year ago recording an excellent 57.60, whilst Ben Coffer (u/15) also ran a personal best time of 2.01.88 in the 600m.
