Cameron Allan (u/17) was thrilled to mount the rostrum at the Junior Great North Run when he finished an excellent 3rd place from the red start in a time of 13.05 for the 4K distance, which was also the fastest time by a club member.

The Harriers had 25 other young runners finish, with the girls taking stage first followed by the boys within their 4 age group wave starts of red, green, blue, and orange as initialled by R,G,B, and O, in the results below. It was a great occasion for them, enthusiastically supported by their families, friends and club members alike spurring them on around the course.

The following day it was the 36th Running of the Great North Run, with runners from 178 nations taking part in this World famous Half Marathon, and again it was well supported by 22 runners from the Club and its volunteers. First counter from the Club was (Over 35) veteran Matt Hornsby who had a fine run being placed 58th on his debut at the 13.1mile distance recording 1.14.09 proving that his victory in the South Shields 10 Mile Road Race in 55.55 four weeks earlier was ideal preparation leading up to this Race. Jonny Wilkinson (u/23) currently a student a St Mary’s University, Twickenham, was our only representative in the Great North 5k Run where he finished 7th in a time of 16.51. However, it’s just been reported that two weeks earlier, Jonny travelled to Karlsruhe, Germany, to compete in the European Deaf Youth T&F Championships and was delighted to win a bronze medal in the 5000m recording a time of 16.53.62, two days later, he finished 4th in the 1500m recording a time of 4.36.39.
