Matt Hornsby continued his rich vein of form in finishing 5th overall in this years Liverpool Half-Marathon and was 2nd (over 35) Veteran, recording a personal best time of 72.50 with over 5,000 runners taking part.

In the Terry O’Gara Memorial 5k at Wallsend another veteran in fine form, Steve Everett, finished 19th overall and was 1st veteran (over 55) recording a very good time of  17.14. Rachel Bentley was 93rd in 20.55, whilst Kelly Bentley was 120th and 1st veteran (over 50). Steve also finished 4th overall and 1st veteran in the Newham Grange 5k Trail  Race recording 17.06 only four days earlier, and there were 193 finishers.

Seven of the Clubs Veteran Runners took part in this year’s London Marathon, and it was good to see Ian Crampton competing in this event again after some long term injury issues. Excluding this year’s race, Ian has recorded an average time of 2 hours 32 mins in his previous 8 London Marathons an impressive record of consistancy. His time was 2 hours 53 mins 7 secs and was 1st counter for the Harriers, 1089th overall, and 5th (over 55). Fellow veteran Peter Harrison (over 40) also ran well too,  breaking the 3 hour ‘barrier’ returning a time of 2 hours 58 mins 9 secs and was placed 1631st. Other Club members to finish were: Greta Jones (over 50) 4.29.05, Simon Hackett (over 50) 4.30.58, Karen Jones (over 45) 4.34.43, Fiona Holloway (over 40) 4.43.18, and Jacquie Robson (over 40) 5.27.49.

At the other end of the age spectrum, two of the Club’s young talented runners  Peter
Cook and Erin Keeler- Clarke were both selected for the N. E. Region (u/13 Teams) for the London Mini-Marathon which incorporated the British Athletics 3 Mile Road Championships. Peter had an excellent run finishing 10th, and was 1st counter for the N.E. Team who finished 3rd out of 11 the teams, therefore securing a Bronze Medal for his fine effort and recording a superb time of 16.26. Erin also did well, finishing 43rd in a time of 18.42, and was 5th counter. With 4 scoring, the N.E. Team finished 8th.

In the Trafford AC Medal Open Meeting at Stretford, Tia Anderson finished a close 2nd in the Girls (u/15) 100m but recorded a personal best time of 13.00, and later went onto win her race and record the fastest time in the 3 x 200m Races recording 26.42. Tyler Thomas also ran well recording personal best times of 12.02 in the Boys (u/15) 100m finishing 3rd, and 24.23 in the 200m finishing 4th. In the Boys (u/13) 800m Travis Anderson (11) and was 7th fastest out of the 3x 800m Races recording 2.31.12.

At the Grand Prix (Meeting 1) at Monkton, Jarrow, there was some fine performances

The N. E. Counties AA 10,000m Track Championship took place prior to the Grand Prix with Robin Linten our only representative and on his debut for this event finished 6th in a very respectable time of 33.51.7.
