Racing in the BMC Grand Prix meeting at Sports City on the evening of Saturday 14th May, Samantha Coleby improved her own club 800m record – again.
Forced to focus on another event after long term injury ended her 400m hurdles ambitions (where she had twice been top ten ranked in the UK) Samantha spent last winter building some endurance base and has now tentatively started to feel her way in the relative hurly burly of 800m racing.
After initially setting a new club record of 2:12.61 she has improved it as follows; 2:11.79(3rd Jan), 2:10.91(27th Jan) and now 2:08.85. The bonus arising from this latest improvement is that it achieves the UKA standard of sub 2:09 which provides an automatic invite to compete in the UK Championships/Olympic Trials later this summer.
However, Samantha is very aware that she is a long way from improving to the point where she is competing of 800m as she used to over 400m hurdles – but she is enjoying the experience of trying and is curious as to how much she can improve.
Another club women’s 800m record.
